Terms of Service
In effect from 22 September 2026
These terms are an agreement between you and Ray Create Enterprises LLC ("we", "us") about using Sidebard: the app you install on your computer and the online service at sidebard.app. By installing Sidebard, entering a licence key, or subscribing, you agree to them. If you don't agree, don't use Sidebard.
1. Who can use Sidebard
You must be at least 18, or the age of majority where you live, to buy a subscription and accept these terms. People of any age may play at a table where Sidebard is used, subject to section 6.
Sidebard is sold to customers in the United States. We do not currently offer it in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, and it is not aimed at customers there.
2. Your licence
While your subscription is active, we give you a personal, non-transferable, non-exclusive licence to install and use Sidebard on computers you use to run your own games.
- Your licence key is for you. Don't share it, publish it, or sell access to it. Anyone using your key uses your monthly allowance.
- Don't copy, resell or redistribute Sidebard. Don't try to extract our API credentials from the app or the service, and don't use the service for anything other than running Sidebard.
- Don't reverse engineer Sidebard except where the law allows it despite this restriction.
Without an active licence, the app still opens and your campaigns remain available, but features that rely on our service (voice, AI suggestions, and image generation) do not work.
3. Subscription and billing
What you are agreeing to when you subscribe
- Sidebard is a subscription that renews every month until you cancel it.
- Your card is charged the plan price shown at checkout — $2, $10 or $20 a month — on the same day each month.
- The amount can vary. If you play past the hours your plan includes and you have turned extra hours on, those minutes are added to the same monthly charge at your plan's rate ($1.50, $1.00 or $0.85 an hour). Pay as you go includes no hours, so every minute you play is charged this way.
- You can set a limit on what a month may cost beyond your plan's price, and change it whenever you like.
- Cancel any time, in one click, at sidebard.app/account. No phone call, no email, no waiting.
- The charge appears on your statement as RAY CREATE ENTERPRISES.
- We email you after you subscribe with these terms and how to cancel, so you have them in writing.
- Sidebard is a subscription billed in advance each month through Stripe, at the price shown at checkout. It renews automatically until you cancel.
- You can cancel at any time at sidebard.app/account. Cancelling stops future charges, and you keep access until the end of the period you've paid for.
- Refunds are covered by our Refund Policy.
- If a payment fails, we or Stripe may retry it. If it still can't be collected, your licence stops working until payment is made.
- We may change the price. We'll tell you at least 30 days before a change applies to you, and you can cancel before then.
4. Hours, fair use and the monthly limit
Subscriptions include hours of microphone time each month, counted only while the microphone is listening. Your month runs from your billing date — the day of the month you subscribed on, which is the day Stripe charges you — to the same day of the next month, measured in UTC. It is not the calendar month: if you subscribed on the 22nd, your hours, your spending limit and your AI allowance all run from the 22nd to the 22nd, and your account page shows that date. How many hours you get depends on the plan you chose at checkout — on Pay as you go, none, and every minute is billed:
| Plan | Price | Included hours | Extra hours |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pay as you go | $2 / month | 0 hours (nothing included) | $1.50 / hour |
| Table | $10 / month | 10 hours | $1.00 / hour |
| Campaign | $20 / month | 25 hours | $0.85 / hour |
When your hours run out the microphone stops and everything else keeps working. Nothing beyond your plan's price is charged unless you ask for it.
- Unused hours roll over. Hours you don't use carry into the next month — the next one starting on your billing date — up to one further month's worth of your plan. They are spent before that month's own included hours.
- Extra hours are opt-in. If you turn them on, time past your included hours is charged by the minute at your plan's extra-hour rate and added to your next monthly invoice. You can turn them off again at any time; hours already used are still charged. If you turned extra hours on before we introduced these plans, you keep the rate you agreed to then until you change plan.
- One charge a month. Everything you owe us for a month — your plan's price and any extra minutes — is on one monthly invoice, charged to the card saved with your subscription. By subscribing you authorise us to charge that card for that invoice, including extra minutes you have chosen to play. We do not sell hours in advance and do not charge your card between invoices.
- Pay as you go has no included hours, so nothing rolls over and being charged by the minute is the plan itself: the extra-hour switch is on for the whole time you are on it, and there is nothing to opt into.
- Your monthly spending limit is optional, and there is none unless you set one. On any plan you can set the most a month may cost beyond your plan's price, counting extra hours charged by the minute. When a month reaches it, the microphone stops until your next billing date and everything else keeps working. You can raise, lower or remove the limit at any time on your account page, within the range shown there, and the change applies from the moment you make it. Whether or not you set one, we email you when a month's extra spending reaches $25 and again at $50.
- If a payment fails, you keep the hours you already have while Stripe retries the card, but nothing new is added: no extra hours are charged by the minute while a payment of yours is overdue. On Pay as you go, which includes no hours, that means the microphone stops until the card is fixed.
- Changing plan takes effect immediately, from Table to Campaign or back. Moving off Pay as you go cannot yet be done in the app: write to us and we will move you, without charging you twice. Changing plan otherwise takes effect immediately. Your included hours become the new plan's, less the hours you have already used that month, and Stripe prorates the difference. If extra hours are switched on, you must turn them off before changing plan; hours already used that month are still charged at the rate you agreed to.
Hours are counted from our voice provider's own records of each connection, so the figures shown in the app and on your account page are estimates until they settle, and your invoice is the final word. Charges for a month can appear on the following month's invoice.
Turning extra hours on also raises the AI allowance below, by what those extra hours cost — so buying more listening time does not leave you short of the maps, rules and story help that go with it.
AI features cost us money every time they run. Each subscription includes a monthly allowance of AI usage, measured by what your requests cost to process. Your current usage and limit are shown in the app under Settings > Licence. If you reach the limit, AI features pause until the allowance resets on your next billing date, the same month as your hours. Everything else keeps working. We may change the allowance with notice under section 3.
5. AI-generated content
- Sidebard's suggestions, transcripts, rules answers, descriptions and images are produced automatically and can be wrong, incomplete or odd. Speech recognition mishears names. Rules answers are not an official ruling. You are the game master: check anything that matters before relying on it.
- You are responsible for how you use what Sidebard produces, and for not using it to create unlawful, harmful or infringing content. Requests are also subject to our AI providers' usage policies.
- As between you and us, you own the campaigns and content you create, and we claim no ownership of what Sidebard generates for you. Similar suggestions or images may be generated for other people.
- Sidebard itself is ours. The app, the service, the website, the name, the look, and the software and wording behind them stay the property of Ray Create Enterprises LLC and its licensors, and are protected by copyright and other laws. Your licence in section 2 lets you use Sidebard; it gives you no ownership of it, and we keep every right we have not expressly given you here. Material from the SRD 5.2.1 is used under its own licence, set out in section 8.
6. Voice, and the people at your table
If you use voice features, you are responsible for:
- telling everyone present that the microphone is on and that speech is sent to a transcription service;
- getting any consent the law where you play requires before conversations are recorded or transcribed; and
- getting a parent's or guardian's permission before using voice features when anyone under 13 (or the minimum age where you live) is present.
Our Privacy Policy explains where audio and text go.
7. Your data
Your campaigns are stored on your computer, and keeping backups is up to you. We are not responsible for data lost from your computer. Our handling of the information we do hold is described in our Privacy Policy.
8. Third-party material
Sidebard includes material from the System Reference Document 5.2.1 ("SRD 5.2.1") by Wizards of the Coast LLC, available at dndbeyond.com/srd. The SRD 5.2.1 is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License.
Sidebard is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Wizards of the Coast. Dungeons & Dragons and D&D are trademarks of Wizards of the Coast LLC.
Sidebard also relies on open-source software under its own licences.
9. Availability and changes
We work to keep the service running, but we don't promise it will always be available, error-free or unchanged. Features may be added, changed or removed, and the service depends on providers outside our control. We may release updates to the app, and some features may require the latest version.
10. Suspension and ending
You can stop using Sidebard and cancel at any time. We may suspend or end your access if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms, for example by sharing your key or trying to extract our credentials, or if we have to for legal reasons. If we end Sidebard as a whole, or end your access without you having broken these terms, we will refund the unused part of your current billing period.
11. Disclaimers
Except as expressly stated in these terms, and to the fullest extent the law allows, Sidebard is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. Some places don't allow these exclusions, so some may not apply to you.
12. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost data, profits or goodwill. Our total liability for any claim relating to Sidebard is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, and nothing affects rights you have as a consumer that cannot be waived.
13. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Arizona, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules, and disputes will be handled in the state and federal courts located in Arizona, unless the law where you live gives you the right to bring a claim in your local courts.
14. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. We'll change the date at the top, and for significant changes we'll tell you by email or in the app at least 30 days in advance. If you keep using Sidebard after a change takes effect, the new terms apply; if you don't agree, you can cancel.
